Student Leadership

At Harris Academy Sutton, we pride ourselves on giving students the opportunity to have a voice, influence change, and grow as leaders in our community.

Student Leadership is a key pillar of our culture. From the moment students arrive in Year 7, they can take on meaningful roles that develop their character, confidence, and communication. Some positions are elected, while others are appointed on merit, but all help our students to grow into responsible, articulate young leaders.

Leadership in the Lower School (Years 7–11)

These roles allow students to make a visible impact, whilst developing valuable skills they will take with them beyond school.

Leadership in the Sixth Form (HASU6)

Student leadership continues to flourish in our sixth form, where students are encouraged to shape the life of HASU6 and inspire the wider academy community. Opportunities include:

  • Student Leadership Team – representing student voice, collaborating with staff, and leading initiatives to improve academy life.

  • Society Leaders – establishing and running academic or interest-based societies, including mentoring and enrichment for lower school pupils.

  • Academic Mentors – sixth formers regularly take on mentoring, tutoring, and enrichment delivery to younger years, building responsibility and confidence.

At HASU6, student leadership is not just about holding a title — it is about making an impact. Sixth formers play a vital role in setting the tone of the academy, modelling independence, resilience, and aspiration.

Why Student Leadership Matters

Every role, from Year 7 to Year 13, is designed to:

  • Build confidence and communication skills

  • Develop teamwork and responsibility

  • Provide real experiences that prepare students for life beyond school

  • Strengthen our inclusive and ambitious school culture

At Harris Academy Sutton, leadership is for everyone and every student has the chance to leave their mark.
