Welcome from the Head of School

MBE ThumbnailA warm welcome to Harris Academy Sutton. We are a mixed comprehensive situated at the heart of Sutton. We are both proud of and also celebrate our diverse social mix together with our breadth of talents, character and backgrounds. It is an exciting time to be here and a great honour to lead our staff and students.

We are no longer the "newcomers" to Sutton!  Since our inception we have set new standards in terms of what comprehensive education can offer in this borough and are delighted by our first two sets of results. They are a testament to the values we hold close here at the Academy:  that a comprehensive education can provide excellence and opportunity for the young people of Sutton that can exceed that offered by more selective institutions. Our students not only access a wonderful experience and education culminating in a great set of qualifications, but also use their time here to develop their character and confidence in order to stand toe-to-toe with whatever challenges they may face.

Our students have access to a wide-ranging curriculum that is full of choice. We also provide opportunities for our students to develop their mettle outside of the classroom, and reflect upon how they contribute to society as they graduate into adulthood.

It is our aim to provide a fulfilling education to the young boys and girls of Sutton that endures long after the exam results have been published.

We will work hard with the community we serve to ensure that all of our students:

  • feel equally secure and valued
  • access the challenges necessary to reach their full potential
  • move out into the world with a wide range of interests to enrich their lives
  • understand the roles that science and scientific thinking can play in human development
  • develop the personal character traits that will see them succeed in whatever they seek to do in life
  • leave our Academy ready to contribute something new to the world

As an Academy we ask that our students are open to new ideas, demonstrate an understanding of what it means to be true to themselves and always remain hungry for a deeper understanding of the world they will eventually inherit.

This Mission Statement represents a significant challenge. Our work at Harris Academy Sutton is to ensure that all engaged with the Academy meet these aims in order to enable our students to stand toe-to-toe with whatever the 21st century has in store for them.

Mr Mick Berry

Head of Academy
