Our House System

House banner 22x

A House system which enriches the lives of our students, creating a sense of community, inclusivity and competition.

At Harris Academy Sutton, we understand that our students' school experience goes beyond the classroom and memories are made through experience, events and healthy competition. This is why our House System sits at the centre of our community and students belong to Houses within their tutor groups.

Our House System is underpinned by our three core values

Innovation

We know our students love the wide variety of subjects offered at Sutton Harris. Our House System takes that one step further by offering exciting House Subject weeks. This gives our students the opportunity to explore their subjects even further, creating innovative thinkers, learners and explorers within our cohorts.

Integrity

Our House System offers students the opportunity to be House Representatives. These Students are the pillars of our community reflecting their hardworking and responsible nature. They help promote and lead our events as well become role models to our younger students.

Discovery

Our House system is driven by offering students a sense of competition and encourages students to step out of their comfort zone. Our House Competition Calendar is full to the brim of exciting opportunities all of which are designed to encourage students to discover just what they are capable of!

Each student and staff member at Harris Academy Sutton belongs to a House. Tutor groups are named after their Houses within each year group, for example in Year 7:

7H1– Hawking House

7H2 – Hawking House

7A3 – Al Khalili House

7A4 - Al Khalili House

7S5 – Seager House

7S6 – Seager House

7U7 – Urey House

7U8 – Urey House

Celebrating our science specialism, fantastic science facilities and close links with the London Cancer Hub, our Houses are named after leading scientists who have pushed forwards the boundaries within their fields:

Hawking House – Named after Stephen Hawking, an English theoretical physicist whose theory of exploding black holes drew upon both relativity theory and quantum mechanics.

Al-Khalili House – Named after Jim Al-Khalili a theoretical physicist, author and broadcaster. He is professor of theoretical physics and chair in the public engagement in science at the University of Surrey.

Seager House – Named after Professor Sara Seagar, an astrophysicist and planetary scientist. Seager is a pioneer in the vast world of exoplanets, she's on a quest for the holy grail: another Earth.

Urey House – Named after chemist and physicist Harold Urey. In 1934 he won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Urey is credited for many contributions in several fields of science during his long and diverse career.

Throughout the academic year students are given many opportunities to represent their House and become involved in different House events. Our House calendar is full of exciting events which encourage healthy competition as well as offering students the chance to explore subjects beyond the classroom.
