Year 10
Welcome from Head of Year 10, Ms Tiltman
My name is Miss Tiltman, I am Director of Achievement for Key Stage 4. I have been a Head of Year for 6 years and worked within pastoral care for 9 years. I have taken one cohort through their GCSE’s and another through their GCSE selection process. It is a pleasure to join the staff team at Harris Academy Sutton as Director of Achievement for Key Stage 4 and oversee the Year 10 cohort as their Head of Year. As the Academy grows, I will oversee both Year 10 and 11 as they progress through their GCSE’s.
My vision for the Year 10 cohort is:
To nurture, enthuse and guide a group of driven young people through Key Stage 4, ensuring all students achieve to the absolute best of their ability, striving to be the best version of themselves.
I am driven and committed to ensure our first cohort of Year 10s leave Harris Academy Sutton driven and passionate young people, with grades they are proud of and a work ethic which serves them well throughout their adult life.
What is it like to be a Year 10 at HASU?
- In Year 10, students begin their learning journey towards their GCSE’s. This is underpinned with a secure knowledge and understanding of the foundation of each subject taught at Harris Academy Sutton. The curriculum offered at Harris Academy Sutton is not only rich in subject content but also instills within our students a sense of being prepared for life beyond education.
- Students in Year 10 begin their year with a focus on GCSE’s, adapting to their new timetables which now only consist of their GCSE subjects, PE and the Personal Development Curriculum within tutor time. As the year continues, students are given regular academic feedback in response to their in-class assessments, ‘Learning Snapshots’ and termly assessments. Students can track their progress according to feedback and respond to the feedback within class to ensure they address misconceptions and secure new subject knowledge. As a Year 10 student at HASU, independence and resilience is key, leading our students to make discoveries about their learning and own ability.
- Within year 10, students continue with their Personal Development Curriculum in Tutor Time and cover challenging topics which are designed to prepare them for life outside of school as well as develop skills which will support their independence and learning. Students also continue to do their Enrichment which offers them skills outside of their GCSE options, helping them build a profile of experiences which will help them as they approach further education or the wider world of apprenticeships and work. To get students thinking beyond their GCSE exams, within Y10 students will also complete a week of work experience offering them an invaluable insight into possible futures, helping them make big decisions later in life.
