Guidance for Re-Opening in September 2020

In order to support a safe re-opening in September 2020 the Academy has undertaken detailed Risk Assessments for Student and Staff Wellbeing as well as Opening Protocols and First Aid / Medical Needs.

These documents are the foundation of our Opening Procedures FAQs. We have tried to be as thorough as possible in constructing this guidance for families and students. If you have any further questions please contact the academy via info@harrissutton.org.uk and a member of the reopening team will be able to answer your question before we return in September.

The principles underlying our decision-making processes have been to ensure that all students and staff are safe whilst being able to provide as broad, dynamic and meaningful curriculum as is possible to all students.

Underlying all the guidelines are two simple actions. We are looking to maintain high levels of personal hygiene as well as to separate students into year group “bubbles”. This will help to reduce levels of cross-contamination and isolate any cases of infection rapidly should they occur.

The measures outlined below represent our implementation of the current guidelines and are subject to change over the summer depending upon any updates that may be forthcoming form the Government, Public Health England, or the Department for Education. We will publish an update to these plans on 2nd September 2020 ahead of our students returning.

Finally, I want you as parents and students to know that I understand that reading the questions and guidelines can be daunting - and feel slightly mechanical! I have outlined our procedures early and without emotion so you are able to begin to understand what school might look like in September. Our FAQs are published in good faith and designed to support you all. Please be assured that all the staff here at HASU care deeply about our students’ health, wellbeing and learning, and the procedures are there to ensure that everyone can function in their roles safely and effectively.
